Over the course of our build we are constantly learning new, better ways to approach our van conversion. Here is a list of various tips and tricks that we have compiled along the way!

  • One of the biggest struggles for us has been performing ninety percent of the conversion in the car park of our apartment building. If you have any possibility of getting access to a small garage or workshop, take it. Save yourself the hassle of working out in the elements and work undercover.
  • Save the legs! You are going to be kneeling and crawling around a lot, so invest in a pair of knee-pads.
  • If you are like us and live in an area that gets brutally dark and cold in the winter months, invest in a beanie with a build in LED light.
  • Another tip for those in colder climates, be kind to your hands and get yourself some nice synthetic leather and fleece gloves.
  • Be weary when using a spirit level. If you are not parked on flat ground your cuts are going to be off.
  • Depending on your neighbourhood, you may want to invest in some better security. Whilst it is very difficult to stop the most determined burglar, you can add some extra features to deter most:
    • Extra locks on the rear and sliding door
    • Immobiliser
    • Vibration activated alarm
    • Motion activated LED lights above doors
    • Reverse park into a spot with a fence/wall/pole behind it to prevent access to the back doors
  • Allocate time once a week to update blog posts or it is too easy to fall behind.
  • You can never have too many cloths, no matter how careful you are, things always spill.
